Continuing from my last post but with a markedly different illustration of how Facebook acts, the peer recommendation brought light to a fascinating development.
A friend invited their entire list to a company they thought was 365Sales. Instead, they clicked on Sales 365. Sales 365 blatantly copied my company’s logo. The administrator of the page was a Malaysian student.
I am unaware why they copied the page. My presumption is that this is done commonly and people do it in the hope that searchers incorrectly are directed to their page when someone searches for the correct source.
Shocked with what was on the screen, I immediately found the Facebook department that deals with infringements of Intellectual Property. Within 5 hours Facebook had entirely removed the Sales 365 facebook group.
Although it was an annoyance, the whole process illustrated how powerful Facebook is, as it acted as a court so swiftly and powerfully.
Don’t mess with Facebook

Peer recommendation
Out of all the marketing strategies online strategies, the most cost effective solution whilst reaching a large audience appears to be being able to recommend a facebook page to all your friends.
According to Forrester research, peer recommendations are the most likely marketing campaign to influence the target. 47% of people searching for products came from this method, whilst only 28% of people obtained information from the company website.
I am currently going through my facebook friends and seeing who is the most popular and of a different demographic. In one minute, a friend of mine can invite over 1000 people to my page. If they are generous, it will not cost the business one cent. If another friend is of a completely different friendship group, they can add their entire friendship base, assuming no mutual friends with the previous person.
For those who owe a bet and have not yet paid it is a good way of settling the score. It is nothing for the person adding the friends to do, and it allows my business to gain more members/viewers to the facebook page. If someone wants a free lunch or drink out of it that is also a welcome alternative.
With an aim of getting everyone in Melbourne initially to have heard about 365Sales, the peer recommendation is a quick and highly efficient starting point.
365Sales will be commencing on the 20th of October. It has been pushed back 2 back as the directors will be on a football trip until the Sunday and it is my birthday on the 20th so hoping it will be a lucky day!!!!!

LAUNCH
I am happy to announce that 365sales.com will be launching on 18 October.
In the next few weeks we will be using e-marketing to boost the membership base. We feel that it would be a waste of money to advertise a website that is not yet operational so will strategically wait until the site is extremely close to starting up before spending money.
Hopefully the business is a success and this time next year I will be looking to employ someone from this class.
Jump onto the facebook page and become a fan of 365SALES for all relevant updates.
Enjoy the break

So intrusive but so good
When looking at a billboard in the city, the marketing who decided the design, location etc have a very difficult task of figuring out how successful the campaign has been.
I was recently talking to a friend who was doing an assignment on Holden. She just logged onto the website to gather some information and closed the site pretty quickly.
Within 15 minutes a pop up appeared on her computer asking if she would like any information on the business or was interested in a test drive. She was very impressed and gave her email and asked for information
Shortly after, Holden sent an email from a customer service employee asking if the information provided was accurate for her needs and if there was anything else they could do for her.
Although a highly targeted procedure like this is costly, it has revolutionsed the way marketers can be in contact with consumers. If the company can manage to appear genuine and act as if it wants to help the web browser, they will not appear intrusive and will gain their trust.
http://www.365sales.com/ now has 266 members on facebook and will be looking at techniques such as these as the business will place a great emphasis on customer service. We are hoping that the site will be operational in about 4 weeks.

My SEO is.........
On a recent trip to Glenferrie Road in an attempt to attract some businesses to 365SALES, I was informed by an employee how popular his business had become.
In a term that was foreign until the last few years, the gentleman had no hesistation telling me the ranking position this particular furniture shop had on Google in regards to their SEO.
I cannot remember the name of the company, but if I typed into Google Melbourne Furniture they would be listed as number 2, Cheap Furniture Melbourne number 3, Furniture online, number 5 etc.
With so much business being conducted on and through the Internet e.g. typing in Melbourne Furniture and knowing there is one on Glenferrie Road, the employee was valid in telling me of the companies position on Google.
As discussed in class, a large portion of browsers are unlikely to go as far as the second page on Google. Subsequently, if the business is serious about using search engines to optimise their business, management must find a way to ensure that some key word associated with their business places them high on the list.
A good example is insurance. When a young person looks for insurance for the first time, they are unlikely to have an loyalty to a particular brand. The common first step is to type into Google 'cheap insurance' have a look at the first few that come up and choose from them.
The 365Sales facebook page currently has 203 members, up from 13 members when I wrote my last blog. If that trend continues the page will have 3170 likes when the next blog is posted. The site will hopefully be running in 4 weeks time and lots of work is currently being done behind the scenes to make it a success

Rome wasn't built in a day
Getting members is not an easy thing for any internet business. I spoke to someone who suggested that buying an E-mail database through the internet is a good form of E-marketing, as it enables the site to reach a large audience.
After initially being entertained by the thought, my optimism has subsided towards the idea. Most likely, the email received by the potential member will go straight into the junk mail. If it were to make it into the inbox, the recipient would probably think it is just spam.
As long as it might take, building an E-mail database from scratch could be the most sensible option to develop a brand. It would be unfortunate to develop a poor reputation of a spammer in such an early stage of the business.
Once the business has been established and reasonably well known, a purchased E-mail database is definately a possibility.
Other forms of marketing, which are less intrusive, will be used to gain broad access to potential members, but studies have shown that E-mail databases are a risky investment.
So our current membership base stands at 13 (close friends) as we have not officially invited people to join our facebook.com group 365SALES.
Whether you join now or in a few weeks I am not fussed. First sale is looking to be late September. Dont miss out

Low cost e-marketing
At the recent gift and homewares exhibtion, I was pleasantly suprised by how many companies accepted that e-marketing had become an integral component of attracting members to a website and that facebook was used for business purposes, not just a source of wasting time looking at photos
Starting up a business is not easy. Trying to get business and members to use my site in its infancy is a challenging task.
However, the availability of low cost e-marketing avenues makes the goals of the business achievable. Unlike Ebay, 365Sales has a limited advertising budget. Subsequently, especially in the initial stages of the business, low cost forms of e-marketing will have to be used.
This is not such a bad thing. The internet has allowed small business to blossom from humble beginnings. A facebook page or twitter account has the potential to reach a massive audience, without costing the company any money. We can communicate information at no cost to people who, without the availability of e-marketing, would most likely have never have heard of us. This blog could even be categorised as a form of e-marketing for the business and it did not cost a cent.
On that note, I will use my free source of marketing to direct you to http://www.365sales.com/ and sign up to the website or send me an email at info@365sales.com
